Shimano Tackle Sales Surge 17.4% in H1 2026 — Premium Segment Drives Growth
Shimano has maintained its strong start to the year by reporting a 17.4% increase in fishing tackle net sales for the first half of its 2026 financial year, with operating income surging nearly 60% on the back of robust global demand. The Japanese tackle giant also raised its full-year profit forecast as a result.
H1 2026 Performance
On a tackle-division basis, the numbers paint a picture of a market still in strong health:
- Net sales: 65,466 million yen (JPY), up 17.4% year-on-year
- Operating income: 7,179 million yen, up 59.8% year-on-year
At the group level (including the bicycle division), Shimano posted total revenue of 247,059 million yen, a 4.1% increase over the same period in 2025. The company told investors that interest in global tackle demand remained firm during the first half of 2026, with sales “robust” across most regions and inventory levels staying largely in balance.
Regional Breakdown
Japan: The domestic market remained subdued. Shimano noted that “rising prices continued to weigh on personal consumption, keeping sales soft.” However, distributors made steady progress in trimming excess inventory, helping stabilise the distribution channel.
North America: Demand stayed strong, supported by favourable fishing conditions on both the West Coast and the South-Eastern seaboard. Consistent sell-through kept inventory levels healthy across the region.
Europe: A slower start to the season due to poor weather delayed angling activity in several regions. Inventories remained somewhat elevated as a result, but sales performance recovered once anglers returned to the water.
Asia (ex-Japan): Momentum continued, driven particularly by China’s appetite for high-end tackle. Demand for premium products remained brisk, with inventories held at appropriate levels — a signal that the Chinese market is absorbing premium imports at scale.
Australia/Oceania: Favorable weather and strong fishing conditions underpinned another period of healthy sales, with inventory positions described as well-managed.
New Products Driving Growth
Shimano credited several new product launches for re-energising the premium segment. The VANQUISH CE spinning reel and the CALCUTTA CONQUEST BFS baitcaster (pictured) were both warmly received, adding fresh momentum to the high-end market. Meanwhile, order activity for established flagship models — particularly the STELLA SW — remained brisk, showing that the premium saltwater segment continues to hold strong appeal.
Outlook
Despite the positive results, Shimano warned of ongoing macroeconomic uncertainty. The company noted that “the economic outlook remained uncertain due to factors such as trends in the trade policies of various nations as well as rising geopolitical risks, such as rising energy prices against a backdrop of rising tensions in the Middle East.”
Nonetheless, Shimano has raised its original 2026 sales performance forecast from 467,000 million yen by 5.1% to 491,000 million yen.
Implications for China’s Tackle Sector
For China’s fishing tackle industry, the standout signal from Shimano’s H1 report is the sustained demand for premium product within the Chinese market itself. Despite macro headwinds, Chinese anglers continue to spend at the upper end of the market — a dynamic that benefits both global brands like Shimano and the premium-tier Chinese OEM manufacturers who supply components and finished goods into that ecosystem.
This also underscores the growing sophistication of the Chinese tackle market: it is no longer purely a manufacturing base for budget exports, but an increasingly significant consumer of high-end fishing equipment in its own right.
