China Fishing Tackle Industry Map 2026

China manufactures 60–70% of the world’s fishing tackle (by volume). This figure is widely cited but rarely broken down. Behind it stand four major industrial clusters, each with its own dedicated product categories, supplier ecosystems, and export directions. Most international buyers know that “China has factories,” but few truly understand which region makes what — and what that means for sourcing strategy.

This article breaks down these four clusters as of mid-2026.

<DataRow items={[ { label: ‘Weihai (Shandong)’, value: ‘~35%’, sub: ‘Reels · Rods · Boats’ }, { label: ‘Ningbo (Zhejiang)’, value: ‘~25%’, sub: ‘Reels · Fishing line · Accessories’ }, { label: ‘Dongguan (Guangdong)’, value: ‘~20%’, sub: ‘Rods · Carbon fiber materials’ }, { label: ‘Xiamen (Fujian)’, value: ‘~10%’, sub: ‘Apparel · Bags · Accessories’ }, { label: ‘Other regions’, value: ‘~10%’, sub: ‘Specialty categories’ }, ]} />

The estimates above are derived from public factory registrations, export data, and industry association reports — precision is within a few percentage points.

Weihai — The Reel Capital

Weihai is a prefecture-level city on the Shandong Peninsula, home to the world’s densest cluster of baitcasting reel manufacturers. This cluster includes the publicly listed company Weihai Guangwei Outdoor Equipment (fac-gw-weihai, Shenzhen Stock Exchange: 002699) as well as dozens of medium-sized reel factories and component suppliers.

Weihai’s main products:

What it means for buyers: Weihai’s reel cluster is the most vertically integrated in all of China. Carbon fiber, magnesium alloy, gear machining, assembly — all happen within a 50 km radius. Reel lead times are shorter than in other regions, and customization is more flexible.

Ningbo — Fishing Line, Components, Mid-Range Reels

Ningbo is China’s oldest fishing tackle cluster, accounting for roughly one-quarter of national output by value. Its strengths include:

Ningbo’s export destinations are more diversified than Weihai’s, with significant volumes going to Europe and Japan.

Dongguan — The Rod & Carbon Fiber Cluster

Dongguan, in the Pearl River Delta, dominates rod manufacturing — particularly the carbon fiber prepreg and blanks that supply rod factories nationwide. If your rod’s blank is labeled “Made in China,” there’s a strong chance the carbon fiber came from Dongguan.

Core capabilities:

Xiamen — Apparel & Accessories

Xiamen is the soft-goods cluster. Fishing apparel, tackle bags, tackle boxes, and accessories are concentrated here. When buyers need bags and wearable gear, Xiamen is the default destination.

What This Means for Sourcing Strategy

If you are a brand or importer, the cluster map isn’t just a curiosity — it’s fundamentally a logistics question.

There is overlap between clusters — many large factories have multi-region layouts — but regional specialization is real and directly affects lead times, costs, and minimum order quantities.

Limitations of This Map

This article is a high-level overview. Regional shares shift each year as factories expand, contract, or relocate. For deeper, more actionable regional maps, see our upcoming cluster-by-cluster deep dives.
