Huanqiu Fishing Tackle slashes custom rod lead times to 75 days

Shandong Huanqiu Fishing Tackle Industrial Co., Ltd., one of Weihai’s oldest and largest rod manufacturers, has compressed the delivery cycle for custom overseas orders from 120 days to 75 days. The improvement rests on proprietary material development software and rod action curve measurement equipment developed in-house, which together let the factory tailor products to individual buyer specifications while keeping quality consistent across runs, according to assistant general manager Xu Xindong.

The company was founded in 1985 and introduced glass fiber fishing rod technology to China at its inception, earning a reputation as a pioneer of the domestic rod industry. Today it develops and produces both glass fiber and carbon fiber rods, and has ranked first nationally in fishing rod export value for many consecutive years. In 2017, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology named it a National Manufacturing Single-Item Champion Demonstration Enterprise, a designation reserved for companies that dominate a specific product category on a national scale.

Huanqiu employs roughly 2,000 workers and maintains an annual production capacity of 15 million rods. The company reported export value of approximately USD 140 million in 2021, and order books remain full, with custom batches for overseas distributors rolling off the lines and heading for packing and shipment. Its flexible production capability has allowed the firm to keep winning orders from well-known international clients despite intense competition in the global rod market.

Beyond its manufacturing strength, Huanqiu has been active in setting industry standards. Together with other Weihai leaders such as Baofeilong, it has led or participated in revising three national standards for fishing tackle — including the standard covering quantities, units and symbols for fishing tackle and tackle materials — as well as ten industry standards covering areas such as fishing tackle classification and terminology and rod holders. This standard-setting role gives the company influence over how the wider industry defines product quality and measurement.

Huanqiu’s progress reflects a broader transformation in Weihai’s tackle cluster, where leading manufacturers are shifting from competing on volume and OEM labor to competing on technology, automation and standards. The city has also registered “Weihai Fishing Tackle” as the industry’s first collective trademark, a government-backed regional brand under which local companies coordinate their international marketing. For overseas buyers, the practical effect is shorter lead times, more consistent quality and a wider range of customisation options from one of China’s most experienced rod factories.
