Weihai tackle exports jump 18% as outdoor boom drives growth
Weihai, the eastern Shandong coastal city long regarded as the heartbeat of China’s fishing tackle industry, has kicked off 2026 with a strong export performance. According to newly released customs data, the city shipped RMB 820 million worth of fishing tackle products in the first two months of the year, marking an 18.4% year-on-year increase.
The figures underscore how Weihai’s tackle manufacturers are capitalising on sustained enthusiasm for outdoor recreation across Europe, North America, and emerging Asian markets. Rods, reels, lures, lines, and terminal tackle produced by the city’s dense cluster of factories continue to dominate global supply chains, with the latest export tally suggesting that momentum from the post-pandemic outdoor boom has not yet run its course.
City-level trade authorities have been actively supporting local enterprises through policy guidance and market intelligence services aimed at helping firms navigate shifting international demand. Officials have pointed to growing interest in freshwater and coarse fishing segments in Eastern Europe and Southeast Asia, alongside steady consumption in traditional Western markets, as key growth vectors heading deeper into 2026.
The export data also reflects broader structural advantages that have long positioned Weihai ahead of competing manufacturing bases. The city hosts a vertically integrated supply chain, spanning graphite and carbon fibre processing, component machining, and finished assembly, allowing manufacturers to compress lead times and offer competitive pricing at scale. Several of the largest Chinese tackle brands, including those supplying private-label programmes for European and North American distributors, run their primary production lines within the Weihai cluster.
Industry analysts watching the Chinese tackle sector note that early-year performance often serves as a reliable indicator for full-year results. If the current pace holds, Weihai’s 2026 tackle exports could surpass the record totals posted in recent years, further cementing the city’s status as the world’s most concentrated hub for fishing tackle manufacturing.
With international trade fairs and buyer sourcing programmes already drawing increased interest from overseas importers, Weihai’s factories appear well positioned to convert the outdoor recreation tailwind into another year of double-digit export growth.
