Leichi rolls out CNC jigging reel for global trolling market

Qingdao Leichi Industrial & Trade Co., Ltd. has expanded its trolling reel programme with a CNC-machined jigging model, the JG02, reinforcing the Shandong-based manufacturer’s focus on precision-built saltwater hardware for international buyers.

The new entrant joins Leichi’s trolling reel catalogue, a category the company has positioned for offshore anglers chasing pelagic species. According to the firm’s product release, the JG02 is engineered as a dedicated jigging reel, reflecting rising demand from export markets where saltwater sport fishing continues to outpace freshwater growth in unit sales.

Leichi has built its reputation around vertically integrated production in Qingdao, a hub that anchors much of China’s tackle export capacity. The addition of CNC machining to the jigging reel line signals a deliberate move upmarket, where buyers in Europe, North America and Australia increasingly expect tolerances comparable to Japanese and Korean rivals. CNC-produced components, particularly spools and frame assemblies, allow for tighter gear alignment and more consistent drag performance under sustained load — critical factors when trolling or vertical jigging for tuna, amberjack and other heavy species.

The trolling reel segment itself has been one of the more resilient corners of the global tackle trade. While freshwater spinning and baitcasting categories have seen fluctuating demand linked to participation rates, saltwater reels tend to move on inventory cycles driven by charter fleets, tournament circuits and recreational big-game anglers. Industry observers note that Chinese manufacturers have used that stability to invest in heavier, technically demanding products that carry higher per-unit margins than entry-level spinning reels.

Leichi’s wider catalogue already covers conventional and spinning reels, rods and terminal tackle, giving the company a cross-category footprint that international distributors can leverage when sourcing complete saltwater outfits. The JG02, in particular, is being marketed as a complement to the brand’s trolling-specific rods, allowing dealers to pitch matched systems rather than standalone components.

For overseas buyers evaluating Chinese supply, the JG02 launch also reflects a broader shift inside the Qingdao cluster. Producers have moved away from competing solely on price, instead emphasising material specifications, corrosion-resistant finishes and digital drag systems that meet the expectations of premium retail accounts. CNC workflows, once the preserve of Japanese OEMs, are now standard equipment in several Shandong factories, and Leichi’s adoption of the process for jigging reels illustrates how that technology has migrated downstream.

The company is promoting the new reel through its website and trade channels, with product specifications and imagery available to wholesale buyers. Export enquiries are typically handled direct from the Qingdao headquarters, where Leichi runs its moulding, machining, assembly and quality control operations under one roof.

Distributors attending upcoming trade events are expected to view the JG02 alongside other new trolling models as Chinese factories sharpen their offer in the saltwater segment — a category where consistency, drag reliability and long-term corrosion resistance increasingly determine which suppliers win shelf space with serious offshore anglers.
