BARFILON builds carbon rod empire from Weihai base

Weihai Barfilon Fishing Tackle Co., Ltd. has carved out a growing reputation as one of eastern China’s most focused carbon fiber rod manufacturers, leveraging a fully integrated production model from its base in Shandong province’s Huancui district. Founded in 2008, the company has spent nearly two decades refining its specialization in mid- to high-end carbon fishing rods, a segment that has become a signature strength of the broader Weihai tackle cluster.

Barfilon operates ten standardized production workshops across a 15,500-square-meter facility, supported by in-house R&D, manufacturing, marketing, and after-sales divisions. The company sources high-modulus carbon cloth from Toray, Japan, a material choice that signals its positioning in the performance rod tier rather than entry-level fiberglass segments. Products currently rolling off the line include the Dragon Legend, Dragon Emperor, and Thousand Dragon Technique II series, with action ratings up to 28-ton and 19-ton specifications targeting competitive coarse and pond anglers.

The manufacturer’s export footprint has expanded steadily since its founding. According to company records, Barfilon products now reach buyers in Japan, South Korea, India, Vietnam, and parts of Europe and the Americas, complementing a domestic distribution network that spans more than 200 authorized dealers across China. That dual-channel approach reflects a broader trend among Weihai-based tackle firms seeking to balance brand building at home with OEM and branded export growth abroad.

For international buyers, Barfilon’s pitch centers on its “light, stiff, fast-hook-set” engineering, with rods such as a 5.4-meter model tipping the scales at just 184 grams, roughly the weight of three eggs, according to plant manager Yu Lihai. The company maintains an on-site competitive fishing pond where staff conduct live product testing before new designs enter mass production, a practice increasingly common among premium Chinese rod makers seeking to differentiate on real-world performance rather than spec sheets alone.

With registered capital of 50 million RMB and full import-export licensing, Barfilon positions itself as a turnkey partner for overseas brands seeking private-label or OEM production in the carbon rod category. The company’s continued investment in proprietary design, combined with its Shandong cost base, makes it a contender worth watching as global demand for lightweight performance rods continues to climb.
