Zug: Swiss city nestled between lake and mountain

Zug, a compact Swiss city situated at 425 metres above sea level on the northeastern shore of Lake Zug, occupies a striking geographical position between the lake’s waters and the lower western slopes of the Zugerberg mountain. The city lies 23 kilometres south of Zurich, measured as the crow flies, placing it firmly within the central Swiss plateau of Zentralschweiz.

The settlement’s setting is defined by its natural boundaries. To one side, the city faces the broad expanse of the Zugersee, while to the other, it rises toward the Zugerberg, whose forested flanks form a dramatic backdrop.
