Langfang summer tackle fair draws over 1,000 exhibitors

The 2014 summer edition of the China (Langfang) Fishing Tackle Trade Fair wrapped up a three-day run at the Langfang International Convention and Exhibition Center in Hebei province, reinforcing the city’s position as one of China’s most active regional sourcing hubs for the angling industry.

Organised under the auspices of the China Stationery and Sporting Goods Association’s Fishing Tackle Committee and the Langfang municipal government, the event drew more than 1,000 exhibitors occupying over 2,000 booth spaces. Buyers travelled from the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region as well as the major tackle manufacturing clusters of Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai, creating a busy trading floor from the opening day.

The product range on display spanned the full spectrum of the tackle supply chain, from rods, hooks, landing nets and floats to reels, waterproof boots, tackle boxes, baits, fish finders, lines, angling apparel, specialist knives and industry publications. Exhibitor categories also extended to fishing venues, facility providers, marine craft and promotional service agencies serving the recreational fishing sector.

Langfang’s twice-yearly tackle fair has carved out a distinct niche in China’s exhibition calendar, running complementary spring and autumn editions that allow manufacturers to launch new product lines ahead of the peak fishing seasons. The summer edition, held 25-27 June, is timed to serve the autumn and winter procurement window when retailers across northern China stock up for the following year’s opening waters.

The show’s growth trajectory has been notable. Earlier reports indicated the 2014 spring fair in February hosted close to 1,000 exhibitors, with organisers offering free freight reception and warehousing services to ease logistics burdens for manufacturers transporting goods around the Lunar New Year period. By the summer edition, booth numbers had doubled, reflecting both rising domestic demand for recreational fishing gear and the fair’s expanding appeal as a B2B sourcing platform.

Hebei province’s strategic location within the greater Beijing-Tianjin economic corridor gives Langfang a logistical advantage over coastal alternatives, with direct highway and high-speed rail connections simplifying travel for both exhibitors and visiting dealers. The venue’s 20,000-square-metre exhibition hall provided ample space for the expanded programme.

Trade fairs in secondary cities such as Langfang have become increasingly important to China’s tackle manufacturing sector, complementing the flagship China Fish show in Shanghai by offering more frequent, regionally focused trading opportunities. For smaller and mid-sized manufacturers who find the costs and scale of international exhibitions prohibitive, these biannual events provide a cost-effective channel to reach the country’s vast network of tackle retailers and distributors.

The summer fair’s successful close signals continued momentum in China’s domestic recreational fishing market, where participation rates have climbed steadily as disposable incomes rise and the sport broadens beyond its traditional enthusiast base into mainstream leisure activity.
